Each V-packing consists of a base ring, two or more intermediate rings, and a non-sealing head ring. The sealing rings have double lips to seal against both the bore and the rod of a system, and the head ring and intermediate rings all have a V-shaped base that enables the V-packing to respond automatically to changes in system pressure.
When under gland compression, the V-shaped base provides a wedging action that enables a system to stay in service even with worn bushes or rams. Furthermore, because the sealing rings have an interference fit at the lips, the seal will perform even at low system pressure. When system pressure increases, the unique V shape takes over and energizes the lips to create a positive seal.
Sigma Seals & Gaskets can manufacture rings from reinforced material to resist extrusion and to avoid distortion while under heavy side loads.
